School Engagement

Hobsons Bay Youth Services works in partnership with the schools in our municipality. Students within local schools are primarily local young people who are an important part of our community. 

 

School programs 

Hobsons Bay Youth Services can partner with local secondary schools to provide programs and service responses that address adolescent development and wellbeing.  

Program topics usually fall within one of the following areas: 

  • Leadership and participation, such as the Hobsons Bay Youth Change Makers Challenge 

  • Events and activities, both in school and within the community 

  • Wellbeing and recreation, including lunchtime engagement activities  

  • Mental Health and/or Counselling

Supporting students who are at risk of disengagement 

Council is funded by the Department of Education and Training to deliver the School Focused Youth Services (SFYS) program to schools across Hobsons Bay and Wyndham.   

SFYS funding is available to support students from years 5 to 12 who are attending school but vulnerable to or showing signs of disengaging from school. The service is available to students in government, Catholic and independent schools across both Hobsons Bay and Wyndham. 

SFYS funding can be used for: 

  • direct student interventions with small groups of students, or  

  • capacity building for school staff and/or parents to better respond to students who are at a risk of disengagement
