Hobsons Bay 360 #9: Providing valuable assistance to those in need

Council’s community support services provide valuable assistance to our vulnerable community members, including our food delivery service, Meals on Wheels.

In the 2022/23 financial year, we delivered 26,548 meals to Hobsons Bay residents! This service has 3 critical components:

  • Food – nutritional pre-cooked meals which are delivered to a person’s home.
  • The provision of social support and contact through our deliverers.
  • A health and welfare check as part of the delivery, which is particularly important for those residents who live alone.

Did you know?

The first Meals on Wheels service started in Australia in 1952 in South Melbourne. The service in Hobsons Bay has been running for over 60 years, starting in the Williamstown area in the 1960’s and later in the Altona area in the 1970’s.

Meals on Wheels is jointly funded by Council, the Australian and Victorian State governments.
