Streets for People

Streets for People - Spotswood and South Kingsville

Spotswood’s village is now safer for pedestrians and cyclists with reduced speed limits. The change was driven by community feedback through the Better Places Spotswood and South Kingsville program and has been approved by the Victorian Government’s Department of Transport and Planning.

Streets bounded by Melbourne Road, The Avenue, Hope Street, and McLister Street (not including Melbourne Road), now have a 40km/h speed limit. A section of Creek Street is also part of the 40km/h zone.

Update of the proposed new 40km/h zones for Spotswood streets

Community consultation noted that the Spotswood area is car-dominated and the local community wants to see the streets changed to make them more pedestrian or bike friendly. The focus of this project is to reduce vehicle speeds and through traffic throughout Spotswood and South Kingsville, creating village and neighborhood streets that feel safer, look more attractive and are usable for pedestrians and cyclists.

The extension of 40km/h road zones north of Hudsons Road in Spotswood has now been approved by the Department of Transport and Planning. All streets within the green section of the below map will be 40km. We will implement signage by mid March.
