Bring the whole family for a day of learning, fun, and connection with nature.

Boollam Boollam Willum, meaning "where butterflies live" in Traditional Language, reflects the importance of this land, celebrating the unique connection between Indigenous heritage and biodiversity.
This event is kid-friendly and promises something exciting for everyone.

No registration required.

Event Schedule:

9.30am - Event start 
10.00am - Welcome to Country, Smoking Ceremony & Digeridoo performance
10.30am - Stalls and activities begin at completion of ceremonies
1.00pm - Event concludes

Hear from Bunurong Elder and Conservation Ranger, Andrew Webster about the flora and fauna of Hobsons Bay. 
Please note that a reasonable level of fitness is required for this nature walk, which lasts approximately 45 minutes and follows an unsealed path with no seating options available.

  • Aboriginal Art and Culture workshop

Join Heather Kennedy with Aboriginal Cultural Workshops. These workshops are suited for children 8+ years old. Limited spaces are available and sign up will be available at the event stall. 

  • Naynertgoroke Traditional Weaving workshop 

Samantha Bennett is a proud Bunurong/Boonwurrung and Wiradjuri woman with a long history of community engagement and volunteering within her Aboriginal community with the Kulin Nation.
As a mum of four and kinship parent to many more, Samantha is a strong advocate for healing intergenerational wrongs by promoting and sharing Aboriginal culture and encouraging reconciliation both within mainstream and Aboriginal communities.
The classes are designed to be enjoyed and aimed at the beginner weaver and our younger members of community, as well as their parents/guardians 

  • Newport Lakes Native Nursery Propagation workshops & Native Plant Giveaway

Learn about the propagation of our native plants and try your hand and propagating some yourself and planting them at home. Our Urban Forest and Conservation Team will also be handing out free native plants. 

  • Hobsons Bay Wetlands Centre 

The global "City Nature Challenge" will be running from April 26th - April 29th, visit the Hobsons Bay Wetlands Centre stall to learn about how you can contribute to Hobsons Bay's effort. The Hobsons Bay Wetland Centre will be running an "Eco Explorer" activity, find all the items on the activity card and get an Eco Explorer badge. Also visit to hear about the new Wetland's Centre. 

  • Conservation display with chance to win a FREE Cat Enclosure Giveaway

Enter on the day to go in the running to win one of two portable cat enclosures valued at over $750. Winners will be drawn after the event on April 27th.

Location

The event is conveniently located on the Bay Trail so we encourage you to ride your bike.

Alternatively, there is car parking available along Andrew Park Drive and follow signage for a short walk to the festival location.
