Hobsons Bay City Council has developed a draft master plan for Bruce Comben Reserve in Altona Meadows to guide future planning, development and maintenance of the site.

The plan is being developed after the Hobsons Bay Aquatic Strategy recommended a new aquatic facility within the reserve. To undertake the development, a master plan is required and Council is now seeking community feedback until 15 August 2020.

The draft master plan for Bruce Comben Reserve includes the proposed location of a new aquatic and leisure centre, acknowledgement of ongoing provision of early years services, new multi-sport facilities and activity zones, upgrades to the current sports pavilion and facilities, a new play space as well as an off-leash dog park and general landscaping and maintenance.

The objective of the draft master plan is to show where a new aquatic facility would be located onsite to service the west of the municipality, and ensure the reserve continues to be a place for sport, play and recreation, community gathering and community health and wellbeing.

The draft master plan can be viewed online at http://participate.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au. An overview can be seen in the video below.

While we are unable to meet with residents face to face due to state government regulations, members of the project team are available to talk through the master plan over the phone or by video chat. Council officers will also be available to input resident’s feedback over the phone. Members of the Bruce Comben Reserve Master Plan Project Team can be contacted by calling Council on 9932 1000 or email projects@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au.

Bruce Comben Reserve is approximately 17 hectares and located off Central Avenue, Altona Meadows. It currently includes a sports pavilion, rugby league, touch rugby and cricket clubs, an early years facility, a playground, large open space areas and walking tracks along Skeleton Creek.

“The upgrades to current facilities and the addition of a new aquatic facility at Bruce Comben Reserve is such a welcomed addition to Hobsons Bay. We have an ever growing community in the west and this has resulted in an increase in demand for new and wider varieties of community recreational spaces.”

"We have a burgeoning community demand for improving our open space areas and sporting facilities right across Hobsons Bay. The Bruce Comben Reserve Master Plan has been well thought through and accommodates the relatively new concept of an aquatics centre.

"It would see a big improvement in the quality of the playing surfaces of the sports grounds and parking in the reserve, along with formalising the dog off-leash area. I look forward to community feedback."
