Williamstown Congregational Cricket Club

For many years, it was believed Williamstown Congs CC had been established in 1924, however, Tony Newman discovered, while completing a history of Congregational Church Cricket, the true date of establishment was 1893. Tony did an amazing job compiling a club history spanning 1893 to 1981/82, using newspaper reports, among other research tools. The first President was Reverend H. Jones, players named in the inaugural match were Thomas, Harrow, McGuire, Rev H. Jones, Maynard, Hicks, Hicks, Saunders, Johnson, White and Worthington. The game was played against North Williamstown Presbyterian's. Unfortunately, the result of the match is unknown. Player averages, association awards, partnerships, office bearers, etc are incomplete, as score books, minute books etc are only available from 1984 onwards. Pre 1984 documentation may have been inadvertently thrown out, or destroyed in a fire at the Church in Stevedore St, Williamstown. There are some stats pre 1984, due to a few books being returned to the club.
