Why this project is needed

Bayfit is one of Hobsons Bay’s most important community facilities, supporting thousands of residents each year through aquatic, fitness and wellbeing programs.

With a limited number of aquatic and recreation facilities available across the municipality, BayFit plays a critical role in supporting community health, water safety and social connection.

Demand continues to grow, with existing facilities operating near capacity and learn to swim waiting lists increasing. Investment is needed to expand capacity, improve accessibility and ensure the facility can continue meeting current and future community needs.

What the upgrade will deliver

The proposed redevelopment will create a modern, accessible recreation destination through a staged program of works, including:

Stage 1: Waterplay splashpad and supporting plant room

Stage 2: New gym

Stage 3: Gym expansion, group fitness rooms and upgraded dry amenities

Together, these improvements will increase capacity, improve the visitor experience and support growing demand for aquatic, fitness and recreation services.

The case for investment

Investment in BayFit will:

  • support learn to swim participation and water safety outcomes
  • strengthen community connection and participation
