Unlocking a nationally significant waterfront destination
Nelson Place is the historic heart of Williamstown and one of Victoria’s most important maritime precincts. This project will revitalise the waterfront, enhancing its role as a vibrant destination for locals and visitors, while celebrating Hobsons Bay’s rich maritime heritage.
Council is inviting partners to support the Nelson Place Maritime Tourism Precinct by investing in key upgrades and heritage restoration, and working with Council as a formal partner in planning and delivery.
Project progress subject to Council consideration following feasibility assessment.
Nelson Place is a unique heritage precinct with significant untapped potential as a tourism and cultural destination. While it attracts visitors, parts of the precinct require renewal to remain competitive and to fully showcase its maritime history. Public spaces, infrastructure and visitor amenities need improvement to support increased visitation and longer stays.
Without investment, the precinct risks falling behind comparable waterfront destinations across Victoria.
