The Altona Village Traders Association has established itself as the peak business and tourism body for the city of Hobsons Bay and in particular for Altona. More than 10,000 people call Altona home, it is a family orientated suburb with people from all over Europe calling it home. Pier Street has many restaurants, take aways and cafes to enjoy, during summer you can sit outside and enjoy looking towards the beach or take your fish and chips and sit at the beach. Amenities that are needed including gift shops, florists, lolly shop, chemist, bank and the like are also located in the shopping strip. There are a number of well established sports clubs, facilities and associations for residents to choose from within the area. Due to its proximity to the beach which is located at the end of the street, Altona has been likened to a beach side resort town and is oftened described as Melbourne's best kept secret. The beach is perfect for families to swim, snorkel or to cast a line out from the pier. The strip is also home to the Altona Market which is held each Tuesday along Pier Street and Logan Reserve from 9am to 3pm. Perfect opportunity to purchase fresh local produce, arts and crafts, plants, clothes, toys and gifts. The Altona Village Traders Association features a traders directory, community noticeboard, promotes local events and lets you keep up to date with what is happening around Altona, be it a festival or a community event or a new business to the area.
