The 2019 Hobsons Bay Activity Centre Strategy is currently under review, aligning with a rapidly evolving state policy framework. Key initiatives including Plan for Victoria, the Victorian Housing Statement 2024–2034, the new Activity Centre Program (introducing the Housing Choice and Station activity centre categories) and reforms to Clauses 54, 55 and 57 of the Victoria Planning Provisions, are collectively directing housing and employment growth towards well-serviced and well-connected centres.

The review assesses activity centres in terms of their current performance and capacity to support future residential, retail and commercial growth. It updates the 2019 strategy by examining how centres have evolved, whether existing designations remain appropriate and their ability to accommodate projected population and housing growth.

The findings will provide evidence-based guidance to inform future planning policy and support Council’s ongoing consideration of the activity centre network and Housing Strategy.
