If you have a caravan, boat or trailer you need to park for long periods on a road or public space, you’ll now need a permit from Council.
Last September, we updated our local laws to introduce the need for a permit to leave a vehicle, vessel or trailer on Council land, a road or a road-related area (such as footpaths and driveways) for more than 28 consecutive days.
In reserves and foreshore reserves, these items require a permit to be left for more than 24 hours.
These changes were brought in to help make our streets and open spaces safer. When someone applies for a permit, we’ll inspect the area to make sure the boat, trailer or caravan won’t cause issues, such as blocking the view when exiting a driveway.
If we think this will be unsafe, we will work with the applicant to help find a solution, such as parking the item elsewhere.
Where suitable off-street storage is available, we encourage residents to use private storage options wherever possible.
Since these local laws were introduced, we have been communicating with residents in areas where we know this is an issue.
No fines were issued through to the end of June 2026 to allow residents time to apply for a permit or find alternative arrangements for storing their boat, caravan or trailer.

There is a non-refundable fee of $97 to apply for this permit.
