Outfit Out Loud: customised clothing workshop

Cut it. Paint it. Stitch it. Make it yours. 

This hands-on upcycled fashion workshop invites LGBTQIA+ people aged 18+ to explore identity, self-expression and creativity through fashion. 

The program will run at two venues for two separate participant groups – Woods Street Arts Space in Laverton and Louis Joel Arts & Community Centre in Altona – creating welcoming local spaces for connection, experimentation and creative expression. Every participant will also have the opportunity to be part of a four-week Re-Wear exhibition at Louis Joel Arts & Community Centre across January and February showcasing the finished garments. 

Transform denim jackets and pre-loved garments into bold, one-of-a-kind wearable artworks using sewing machines, fabric paints, stencils, airbrushing, patches, transfers, studs, trims, jewels, recycled materials and more. 

Learn basic sewing and alteration skills, experiment with deconstruction and reconstruction, or push your design into haute couture and avant-garde territory. Clothing becomes a canvas for celebrating individuality, queer identity and personal style while giving discarded garments a new life. 

Clothing for the workshops has been kindly donated by Green Collect, giving quality pre-loved garments a new life while encouraging sustainable alternatives to fast fashion.
