Probus Club of Altona
The Club was originally formed as a men’s club by the Rotary Club of Altona in 1987 at a meeting at the Altona Library, chaired by the then Rotary Club of Altona President, Doug Grant. Early meetings were held at the Altona RSL and at the Kooringal Golf Club. The Club became a combined club for men and women in April 2010. Probus is an association of retired and semi-retired people who join together in clubs for the purpose of regular social interaction to keep both their minds and bodies active and to enjoy the fellowship of new friends. Probus is not a Service Club and does not engage in fund raising or community sponsorship. It is made up of members from all walks of life. It is also non-sectarian and non-political. Many retired people today move for a more relaxed lifestyle and find that they leave family and friends behind, so it is necessary to find an outlet to enable them to make new friends and to take part in new interests. The only criterion for membership is to be no longer in full time work.
