Waste service disruptions

Have the bins on your street not been collected?

Due to a state-wide truck driver shortage, Hobsons Bay and neighbouring councils are experiencing delayed waste collections.

Council understands that staff shortages are being seen across many industries. Supermarkets are experiencing supply issues and local businesses are telling us it's increasingly difficult to find skilled staff.

Unfortunately, our waste collection contractor has advised disruptions will continue for some time while more truck drivers are recruited and trained.

During this time, please put your bins out as per your regular schedule and leave them out until they’ve been emptied. This may take more than a few days but we anticipate the delays will reduce as more drivers get on the road.

We understand this is a real inconvenience for residents and we’re continuing to meet with our contractor to see if we can resolve this issue sooner and will keep you updated.

In the meantime, we’re arranging extra Saturday collections, and asking drivers to prioritise collection of our general waste and food/garden streams, which we understand can get rather unpleasant when left out too long.

Please tell your neighbours to leave their bins out! We thank you for your support and patience.

2023 bin collection schedule

In 2023, your bin collection days will remain the same as in 2022.

Printed waste calendars were delivered to residential homes early 2023. If you have recently moved into the area, or lost your copy, you can pick one up from any Council+ location. You can also download copies of the 2023/24 calendar from the links below.

Please note: Hobsons Bay City Council is divided into four areas: Area 1, Area 2, Area 3 and Area 4. The calendar shows on which days each bin will be collected for your area. A map of all areas is shown below.

Want a new way to keep track of your bin schedule? Many residents are already using the Recycling 2.0 mobile phone app to keep track of their home bin collection schedule. Download it for free on the App Store (iPhone) or on Google Play (Android phone).

You can also find your next bin collection day using Council's Interactive waste collections map.  Simply type in your address and see what bins to place out for the next 4 weeks.
