A message from the Western Public Health Unit

As we rug up and skies turn grey, winter bugs are never far away. Winter brings an increased risk of respiratory illnesses like flu, COVID, RSV and whooping cough increases — especially for young children, pregnant people, and older adults.

Vaccination is your best protection against serious illness this winter.

• Children under 5 years risk serious illness from the flu. The flu vaccine is safe, effective and free for children aged 6 months to under 5 years.
• Pregnant people should the get the flu vaccine, the new RSV vaccine and a whooping cough booster to help protect themselves and their babies.
• Older adults – especially those over 65 – should get their yearly flu vaccine and stay up to date with COVID boosters.

• Most adults aged 65 and over should have a COVID booster at least yearly
• Those 75 and over should get a booster every 6 months.

Vaccines are available through Council's immunsation team, most GPs, and pharmacies. Book yours today to stay well this winter.
