Every day across Hobsons Bay, people and groups give their time and energy to make our city a better place, and it’s important that we recognise and celebrate those contributions.

Council’s news Community Recognition Awards program will do just that.

The awards are a new and exciting platform for us to acknowledge the different ways people contribute to our city and community.

The six new awards highlight these various contributions.

Whether it’s supporting others, leading positive change in the community, making contributions through sport, strengthening the community, or making a difference as a young person or leader, we are shining the spotlight on those in our community who make a real impact, often going unseen or without asking for recognition.

These efforts may not always be front and centre, but they are the backbone of a strong and connected Hobsons Bay.

Recognising community contribution is about more than just awards. It’s about reinforcing the values we share, values like kindness, inclusion and leadership.

When we acknowledge those who go above and beyond, we not only recognise them for their efforts, but we also inspire others to get involved.

The new approach ties in well with our National Volunteer Week celebrations at the end of May, when we announce the winners.

That week is all about celebrating the role volunteers play in communities across Australia. Volunteers are at the heart of so many local groups, events and support networks in Hobsons Bay.

It’s a timely reminder that whether through formal volunteering or just everyday acts of giving back, these contributions play a crucial role in our city and deserve to be seen and celebrated.

So if you know someone making a difference, I’d encourage you to get involved and tell us about their work.

Nominations are open until 15 April, so head to hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au/CRA to put your nominations forward or to find out more about the awards.
