Have your say to shape Hobsons Bay
Published on 14 May 2025
It’s a special thing to be part of the Hobsons Bay community. There is so much to love about our city, and right now is the time to have your say to make it even better.
Council is currently in the process of engaging with the community for both our Council Plan 2025-29, as well as the budget for the next financial year.
In case you don’t know too much about it, the Council Plan is a document compiled every four years after Council elections.
With a new Council voted in late last year, now is the time to shape what the next four years in Hobsons Bay looks like.
The plan helps guide the projects, programs and initiatives into which Council invests. And we want you to have your say.
It is critical we hear from all sections of our community to find out what matters most to you.
By having your say, it ensures our plan is as reflective of the community’s wants and needs as possible.
It will help prioritise what we spend our time and money on to make Hobsons Bay a better place to live, work and play.
You can have your say at drop-in sessions all over the municipality or via the online survey, where you have the chance to win one of six $100 gift cards. There are additional opportunities in July to participate in in-depth community workshops. You can nominate to participate in these through the survey process.
We are also calling on the community to have its say on the shorter term, with community engagement now open for next year’s proposed budget too.
This is the first Council budget I have been able to contribute to as a Councillor, and I’m excited with what it offers the community.
Upgrades to roads is something I and other Councillors have heard lots about. Almost $22 million for roadworks will help stay on top of maintenance, which will substantially improve the experience of residents moving around our city.
It also contains $10 million for recreation and open space projects, which are absolutely critical for the wellbeing and enjoyment of local residents.
There’s a lot to unpack, but I would really encourage everyone to take a look at both the budget and Council Plan, and let us know your thoughts to help shape our community for the better.
