The Brooklyn community will soon be able to enjoy the spoils of a new community garden.

The garden, the second of its kind in Hobsons Bay, is a result of community consultation that began in 2023 and was brought to life with funding from Hobsons Bay City Council and the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action.

The garden features:

  • forty state-of-the-art above-ground wicking beds, reducing water usage

  • an accessible raised garden bed and children’s garden beds

  • a food forest

  • and artwork including a sculpture flower entranceway and mural.

The community-led Patch in the Park group was established to make the most of the garden.

The group produces food in a fun and educational way and is always seeking new members.

Situated at 35 Nolan Avenue, Brooklyn, adjacent to the Brooklyn Community Hall, the garden will further enhance the Brooklyn neighbourhood.

The recently completed Brookyln Community Garden was officially opened on Friday 11 April, with Hobsons Bay Mayor Daria Kellander, Deputy Mayor Rayane Hawli and Cr Michael Disbury joined by Member for Williamstown Melissa Horne and community members for the opening.
