Artist-in-Residence program at Soundstep Studios

Emerging and early-career artists working with music or sound are invited to apply for the Artist-in-Residence program Soundstep Studios.

Running from August – December 2026, this program will provide two artists with free access to the recording and mixing studio to develop a music or sound project.  

Based at Woods Street Arts Space in Laverton, Soundstep Studios is a non-profit collective offering westside creatives affordable access to a professional recording studio and skills development opportunities through workshops and events. 

Selected artists will have autonomous access to the recording studio on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays for 6 months. Participation is free, and artists are required to deliver a final project at the completion of the residency. They will have the option of sharing their experience either through an in-person Artist Talk, or by creating a social media video. 

The following residencies are available: 

  • Two artists, bands or collectives: August to December 2026

Eligibility criteria: 

  • Ages 18-30
  • Must be competent in using studio equipment  
  • Must be self-producing for at least 12 months 
  • Must have own DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) 
  • Must be able to safely use stairs to access studio 
  • Open to artists across Victoria, but priority will be given to Hobsons Bay/western suburbs applicants

Applicants will be assessed by industry professionals. The decision of the panel is final.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) can be submitted online between 4 May – 1 June.
