About Woods Street Arts Space

People looking at artworks in a gallery space

Woods Street Arts Space is a place for creativity and community.

History

In 2012, Council took the lease of the former post office in the Lohse and Woods shopping precinct in Laverton.

Vacated in 2010, the building offered a unique opportunity to create a multi-use and flexible creative space that could be activated by the local community.

Building on principals of urban renewal and community engagement, Woods Street Arts Space has since hosted thousands of programs including art exhibitions, creative workshops, residencies and events.

The program

Each year we present two half-year programs that encompass events, workshops, exhibitions and more for all ages and interests. Many of the activities at Woods Street Arts Space are delivered by local groups or members of the community.

Programs run from February to July and from August to December. The space is closed in January each year.

From art, dance and theatre to design, music and more — programs at Woods Street Arts Space explore creativity, the environment, multiculturalism and community, and celebrate all that we love about Laverton.

How to apply

Our programs are developed through an Expression of Interest (EOI) and curatorial process.

EOIs are accepted twice each year, around April and October/November. However, we're always interested in hearing about new programs, events or activities from the community.

If you have a creative activity you'd like to run at Woods Street Arts Space, please visit our apply page, or email us at arts@hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au
