The exhibition is a series of 11 artworks exploring the layered cultural, environmental and historical landscapes of Melbourne’s western suburbs, focusing on Stony Creek Backwash and Hyde Street Reserve. Using mixed media, projection, photography and digitally reworked imagery, Carmel reimagines sites shaped by industry, displacement and renewal.

About the Artist

Carmel Cosgrove is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in Yarraville. She studied Fine Arts with Honours at RMIT and has made art for many years, beginning in her early teens. Carmel works from a converted shipping container in her backyard and at the Footscray Makers Lab with other local artists.

For over 20 years, Carmel’s work has explored how urban environments change through industry, neglect and care. Places such as Stony Creek Backwash and Hyde Street Reserve remain central to her practice, reflecting themes of damage, resilience and renewal.
