Improved transport a priority

Reliable and connected transport is essential to a thriving community.

Whether it’s getting to work, school, shops or spending time with family and friends, people deserve transport options that are safe, accessible and dependable.

That’s why improving public and active transport continues to be a key advocacy priority for both myself and Hobsons Bay.

Across our city, transport challenges continue to impact daily life for residents. Congestion on key roads, gaps in public transport connectivity and barriers to walking and cycling all place pressure on our growing community. These issues affect everyone, from local businesses to students, older residents and families trying to get around.

I was pleased that in our newly-endorsed Advocacy Plan, we emphasised the importance of advocating for improved transport options across Hobsons Bay.

A key focus is delivering a more connected transport network with reliable public transport, safer cycling infrastructure and better pedestrian connections.

This means advocating for improved train and bus services, particularly where bus services remain infrequent and disconnected, while reducing barriers to active transport and ensuring infrastructure keeps pace with population growth.

Another key priority is advocating for a train station in Altona North, because we recognise how important it would be for our community.

More than 3,500 people have signed a community-driven petition calling for an Altona North train station, a clear statement of what the community wants and needs. I encourage people to sign the petition and support the campaign to reach the 10,000-signature threshold.

Too many people are forced to travel out of their way just to access the train network, with many relying on surrounding stations where parking is already under significant pressure.

This is about more than convenience - a local train station would improve connectivity, reduce travel times and help people access jobs, education and essential services.

Our city remains heavily car-dependent, and that has real impacts on traffic congestion and air quality in our area. Our community should have access to the same standard of public transport as the rest of Melbourne.

Improving public transport access is something I care strongly about and will continue advocating for, because our community deserves better transport connections and investment that keeps up with our city’s growth.

By continuing to advocate for connected and reliable transport, we can help build a more accessible, liveable and sustainable Hobsons Bay for everyone.
