Community members can help shape Hobsons Bay’s transport future, as engagement opens for Council’s Integrated Transport Strategy 2026-36.

The long-term strategy aims to look at all the ways we move around so we can have a system where all modes of transport work together, and are as sustainable, efficient, accessible and safe as possible.

Hobsons Bay’s population is projected to grow to 105,000 by 2036, presenting various transport challenges including congestion, infrastructure and services gaps, cycling safety and limited public transport options.

The strategy will look to address these, while also looking ahead to ongoing developments such as electric vehicles and charging stations, and other new technologies.

Several community consultation options are available where people can let us know what is working, what needs improvement and what their needs are across the transport network of Hobsons Bay.

Community members can now have their say via an online survey at participate.hobsonsbay.vic.gov.au, which includes a map where people can identify where there is an issue or opportunity.

People can also express interest in joining one of three community workshops to discuss transport issues in more depth:

  • Workshop 1: Tuesday 3 March, 6pm to 8pm - Laverton Community Hub
  • Workshop 2: Thursday 5 March, 1pm to 3pm - Newport Community Hub
  • Workshop 3: Sunday 15 March, 10.30am to 12.30pm - Williamstown Library

They can also attend one of the following community pop-up sessions:

  • Friday 20 February, 5pm to 9.30pm - Grazeland
  • Tuesday 24 February, 10am to 1pm – Altona Beach Market (outside Coles supermarket)
  • Sunday 1 March, 8am to 1pm - Altona Meadows Regional Farmers Market
  • Sunday 8 March, 9am to 2pm - Williamstown Regional Farmer Market

The first round of community consultation will end on 15 March, with a draft strategy expected to be presented for community feedback in July 2026.

Quotes attributable to Mayor of Hobsons Bay, Cr Diana Grima:

“From walks to the shops and school trips to weekend rides, public transport and driving, we know people have such a varied range of how they get around Hobsons Bay.

“It’s important to have your say, so we can listen to the different experiences of how people get from A to B in our city.

“Share your voice and help shape our transport future.”
