Changed traffic conditions, including road closures and parking restrictions, will be in place along select roads in Newport and Williamstown on New Year’s Eve.
People gather in large numbers to view the City of Melbourne fireworks from across the water in Williamstown, with vantage points along The Strand and at Nelson Place.
The closures help make the area safer and maintain access for emergency vehicles and services.
Roads will be closed from 5.30pm on Wednesday 31 December until 1.30am on Thursday 1 January 2026 at:
The Strand from North Road, Newport to Ferguson Street, Williamstown
Nelson Place, between Ferguson Street and Thompson Street, Williamstown, including Syme Street
There will be no vehicle entry into the zone after 5.30pm. Vehicles already parked in the zone can exit until 7pm only, no vehicle movement will be allowed between 7pm and 1.30am.
Parking restrictions will be in place on nearby streets:
Between The Strand and Douglas Parade (North Road, Peel Street and Swan Court)
Between The Strand and Dover Road (Yarra Street, Thomas Street, Stanley Street, John Street and Clark Street)
Between The Strand and James Street (Stevedore Street)
