Council services during festive season

Council services will be affected during the festive season.
Customer service
The Civic Centre in Altona will be closed from 5pm on Friday 19 December through to 8.30am on Monday 5 January.
Customer service will continue to take calls and respond to community enquiries during this time (excluding public holidays).
Libraries and community hubs
Altona Meadows, Altona North, and Williamstown libraries will operate under a special timetable during the festive season.
Opening hours are from 10am to 4pm from Monday 22 December to Friday 2 January, returning to normal operating hours from Saturday 3 January 2026, except for:
December 24 (Christmas Eve): 10am to 1pm
December 25 (Christmas Day): Closed
December 26 (Boxing Day): Closed
December 31 (New Year’s Eve): 10am to 1pm
January 1 (New Year’s Day): Closed
Payments will not be processed at libraries or by customer service during this time. Payments can be made via other payment options, such as Australia Post, BPOINT, BPAY, Post Billpay, or via the online payment portals My Hobsons Bay Hub or Council website.
Altona Library, Laverton Community Hub, Newport Community Hub and library, and Seabrook Community Centre will be closed from 22 December to 2 January.
All library chutes will be open as usual.
Full services and regular operating hours will resume at the Civic Centre and all libraries from Monday 5 January.
Bin collections
Kerbside waste collections will continue through the festive season, except for Christmas Day, Thursday 25 December, and New Year’s Day, Thursday 1 January.
During these two weeks, if your bin day is usually Thursday, your rubbish will be collected on Friday. For those with a usual bin day of Friday, these collections will be made on Saturday.
Hard waste collections
There will be no hard waste services the week beginning Monday 22 December 2025.
This service will resume from Monday 29 December 2025, with no collections on New Year’s Day, Thursday 1 January 2026.
