Memorial plaques and commemorative trees

We welcome applications for memorial plaques to commemorate individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the life of our community.

Plaques may be placed on existing park seats or other suitable locations in publicly accessible open space, subject to availability and alignment with Council’s Plaque and Commemorative Events Policy(PDF, 258KB). Each application is assessed based on the nominee’s legacy, their connection to Hobsons Bay, and their impact on civic, social or cultural life.

To be eligible, the nominee must have:

  • been a resident of Hobsons Bay at the time of their passing

  • passed at least 12 months prior to the application

  • made a contribution to the community that exceeds what might be expected through paid work or general volunteering.

All costs associated with the design, installation, and ongoing maintenance of the plaque are the responsibility of the applicant. Council does not guarantee plaques will remain beyond 10 years and reserves the right to relocate or remove them in future.

Before submitting, we recommend reviewing the full policy from the link above.
