On the 15th of December 1995, Newport Lakes was officially opened to the community.
From its 3 million year old bedrock and the grassy plains of Yalukit Willam country, to a hundred years of quarrying, the site has a fascinating history.
Celebrate the 30th birthday of its Newport Lakes era with Dr Dominique Hes, author of The Stories of Newport Lakes: Creating Regeneration Capacity!
Enjoy a live performance from Michael Stewart of his original song Koort Boork Boork, written in thanks to Dr Hes for her work in researching and recording the history of a treasured community green space.
Bring photos from your home collection of Newport Lakes and surrounds, and library staff will scan onto USB for you using portable scanners from our Library of Things collection. If you choose, donate an electronic copy to the Heritage Collection for inclusion in a special Newport Lakes 30th Anniversary archival folio!
