Williamstown Primary School (1878)

• Basalt building by H Bastow was reported to be the best example of educational architecture being built in the Australian colonies at the time.
• The 1906 Infant School by GW Watson came to influence the design of many other infant schools in Victoria .
• First government school in Williamstown, marked a new era of secular education made possible by the Free Education Act of 1872.
• School is linked to development of Williamstown during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
