Laverton Works Update - Maher Road and Aviation Road

Maher Road

Works on a shared trail on Maher Road connecting Bladin Street to Aircraft Train Station and road safety improvements are scheduled to commence in early October 2022.

The works will provide safe links for pedestrians and cyclists between Bladin Street and Aircraft Train Station, improve road safety for pedestrians, and reduce vehicle speeds.

Additional works involve:

  • two raised crossing points over Maher Road to allow pedestrians to safely cross the road and improve road safety
  • a new raised crossing over Bladin Street on the north side of the roundabout to provide safer access to the shared user path.

The Maher Road shared trail and road safety upgrade stem from the Better Places Laverton Place Guide (endorsed by Council in September 2020) and have received funding from the state and federal governments. Community engagement for the project was undertaken in August 2021.

Aviation Road

The existing pedestrian crossing in Aviation Road, Laverton, will be upgraded to a raised crossing to reduce speeds and improve safety for pedestrians. Speed humps will also replace the current traffic cushions, which are in poor condition.

The works involve:

  • an upgrade of the existing pedestrian crossing to a raised crossing to reduce speeds and improve safety for pedestrians
  • a new flat top speed hump near the freeway off ramp to replace the traffic cushions in this location which are in poor condition. (This will help encourage safe vehicle speeds from the Princes Freeway exit through Aviation Road.)

The Aviation Road safety works align with the vision in the Better Places Laverton Place Guide (endorsed by Council in September 2020) and future master plan, which is in development.

Community engagement for the project was undertaken in June 2022.

The Aviation Road works received funding from state and federal governments and are scheduled to commence in mid-October 2022.

During works, the road will be closed with traffic management and detours in place.
