Hobsons Bay is rising to the climate change challenge with actions to increase the resilience of people, homes, businesses and infrastructure across our community.

Our coastal location means Hobsons Bay is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, which is impacting our community’s health, our homes, our natural and built environments, and the cost of living.

Recognising that action is essential to benefit current and future residents, Council has developed the Response to Climate Change Action Plan(PDF, 11MB).(PDF, 16MB)

The Plan will support Council to achieve:

  • Emissions reduction of 7,000 tCO2-e from Council operations
  • Increased tree canopy on public land to 30 per cent by 2040
  • Increased water use sourced from alternative sources by 20 per cent
  • Community greenhouse gas emissions of net zero by 2030
  • Increased waste diversion from landfill rate to 66 per cent by 2025

The Response to Climate Change Action Plan will be delivered from 2022-2030 with regular reviews to ensure that Council responds to new opportunities, new challenges and the latest climate data over the life of the Plan.
