Coastal and Marine Management Plan
Managing and protecting our coastline
The Hobsons Bay community shares a love of coastal and marine environments. Our rich history has been shaped by proximity to the coast and water. The Coastal and Marine Management Plan (CMMP)(PDF, 7MB) identifies initiatives for the management of Hobsons Bay coastal and marine areas over the next 10 years. Working towards a more sustainable future, it looks to balance social, cultural, environmental and economic values in managing this unique coastline, that we appreciate and enjoy.
Legislation and policy from the Victorian Government (the Marine and Coastal Act 2018 and Marine and Coastal Policy) drives and guides the development of CMMP's across the state.
Management of the foreshore is also a shared responsibility between Hobsons Bay City Council and other State Government agencies and authorities. Our community and visitors also have a role to play. There are a range of existing and future management issues and challenges. A key focus of the plan is to balance the many uses and values of the Hobsons Bay coastal and marine areas.
The Hobsons Bay CMMP
The CMMP includes:
- a vision shaped by community and stakeholder reflections, expectations and aspirations for the coastline
- an overview of the values, challenges and opportunities for managing our coastal and marine areas, informed by community and stakeholder contributions
- objectives that align with state legislation
- priority actions over the next 10 years, both Council-wide and for individual precincts
- a pathway to implement and track actions
The development of the CMMP was completed with extensive consultation with the local community and agencies involved with the management of foreshore areas in Hobsons Bay.
