Stop 7: Old Royal Hotel

Capture Hobsons Bay Stop 7 Old Royal Hotel

Williamstown was Melbourne’s first seaport and is rich with history. It is full of gorgeous heritage buildings, grand churches and lovely tree lined streets. Take a wander around Nelson Place and you will see plenty of these buildings including the old Royal Hotel, just across from Seaworks. This building was originally built in 1852 but rebuilt in 1893 and is stunning and intricate with its red brick and white trims. Included on a tour of the historical sites of Williamstown, it also has a colourful past having been built as superior accommodation for captains and governors but ended up being known for a pub with illegal gambling.
