Fishing

Hobsons Bay is renowned for its fishing and with two great boat ramps located at Newport and Altona, which makes it really easy to get out amongst the snapper, whiting, flathead and squid.

If you don’t have a boat there are some great spots along the coast to wet a line. The Warmies, located on the western side of the West Gate Bridge on the Yarra River at Newport, is a popular spot with anglers. There are locations to fish from further along the banks of the river as well as the many piers and jetties dotted along the coast from Williamstown to Altona. The Williamstown Beach Rockwall offers an ideal location for deep-water fishing from the shore.

There are several areas designated marine parks around the Williamstown area that anglers should be aware of. Jawbone Marine Sanctuary covers 30 hectares and the Point Cook Marine Sanctuary is south of the township. Please ensure you know the rules and remember your safety when planning your fishing expedition.
