Waste and recycling services

Council’s new waste and recycling service has been in operation since February 2020. Recently, Council undertook a review of the first year of the service, which considered operational data and community feedback. Thank you to every one of the almost 6,000 residents who participated in the review. The review report and supporting data is available at this link.

To continue to improve our waste service, we will soon be implementing a number of adjustments to the service including:

  • introducing weekly collections for general waste
  • transitioning ‘green’ (food and garden) waste collections to fortnightly
  • trialling the use of paper bags for use in the food and garden waste bin

Timeframe

As part of Council’s kerbside recycling and waste reforms, we’ll soon be making some changes to the regular service. From Monday, 1 November 2021:

Rubbish bins will be collected weekly

Food and garden waste bins will be collected fortnightly

A new calendar, reflecting the change of frequency, will be delivered in October 2021, or use Council’s App to get reminders of bin collection days. For more info on the App and for download links, click this link.

Paper Bag Trial

Council will also begin a trial of paper bags to collect food scraps for the food and garden waste bin. We are working to begin the trial as soon as we can. However, sourcing the bags is subject to procurement and supply issues that are outside of Council’s control. If the timing does change, this page will be updated as soon as possible.

To register to participate in the paper bag trial, which is open to all households, please click here. Registered participants will receive further details, including start date information.

Upsize

For residents who have already participated in the free COVID-19 interim upsize for garbage bins, you can continue to use the 240L bin at no charge for the time being. Council will be in touch over the course of the year to advise of further changes to this program.
