Tree species trials

We are currently trialling new tree species from different regions around the world.

The intention of these trials is to find new climate ready tree species that will be suited to our local climatic conditions.

The tree species we are trialling comprise a combination of Australian native and exotic specimens from hotter and drier regions, which haven’t previously been planted in the Hobsons Bay area. This program aims to increase our tree species diversity by identifying suitable climate ready tree species moving forward.

Once trial species are identified as being suitable, Council will incorporate them within our tree planting programs. The increased species diversity will help to create a resilient urban forest in Hobsons Bay.
