Hair, Beauty & Tattooing Complaints

Under The Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, all hair, beauty and skin penetration businesses (including home businesses) must comply with the Act. Activities that require registration include:

  • hairdressing/barber
  • manicure/pedicure
  • make-up artist
  • body and ear piercing
  • beauty therapy
  • waxing/threading
  • tattooing
  • electrolysis/laser treatment
  • colonic irrigation
  • dry needling
  • cosmetic tattooing

The Public Health Unit has an obligation to conduct annual routine inspections of these premises and to investigate complaints relating to these activities such as:

  • unhygienic premises
  • poor procedures and practices
  • unregistered premises
