Hair, Beauty & Tattooing Complaints
Under The Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008, all hair, beauty and skin penetration businesses (including home businesses) must comply with the Act. Activities that require registration include:
- hairdressing/barber
- manicure/pedicure
- make-up artist
- body and ear piercing
- beauty therapy
- waxing/threading
- tattooing
- electrolysis/laser treatment
- colonic irrigation
- dry needling
- cosmetic tattooing
The Public Health Unit has an obligation to conduct annual routine inspections of these premises and to investigate complaints relating to these activities such as:
- unhygienic premises
- poor procedures and practices
- unregistered premises
