COVID-19 impacts on staffing and Council services
Test purchases are regularly conducted at tobacco retailers, eating establishments and licensed premises for sales to minors to ensure compliance with the Tobacco Act.
Council also responds to any complaints of breaches of smoke free dining, display and advertising of tobacco products and cigarette sales to minors.
Smoking is prohibited in any enclosed dining area or workplace. Businesses that offer outdoor dining must provide wind proof ashtrays, under Council's Footpath Trading Code of Practice(DOC, 4MB).
Under its Community Local Law, Hobsons Bay City Council has banned smoking at the following locations:
The consumption of alcohol is prohibited in some areas of Hobsons Bay.

Nelson Place footpath and roadway, extending from Pasco Street to Syme Street.
Excludes any business already permitted to serve alcohol.
Cole Street and Parker Street roadways and footpaths from Nelson Place intersection to Aitken Street intersection.

Commonwealth Reserve - excluding any businesses issued a permit.
Bayside Festival - Altona
All areas within JK Grant Reserve, bounded by Fresno Street, Sugargum Drive and Civic Parade.
Excludes the two 30 metre areas to the north and south of the sports pavillion and social room buildings, together with any premises already licensed to sell and serve alcohol withion the boundaries of JK Grant Reserve.
