Hobsons Bay City Council is delivering the Altona Beach entry project in partnership with the Victorian Government.
This project is part of Council’s Open Space Strategy and is supported by funding from the Victorian Government, in particular $4.4M from the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions as part of its Suburban Revitalisation program and $1.4M from the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action as part of their Coastal Protection program.
Stage 2 Construction Commencement
Altona Beach Entry Stage 2 construction is scheduled to commence in March 2025 and be completed by November 2025, weather permitting. The work will focus on completing the remaining project elements, which include service connections (sewer and irrigation), landscape enhancement of the Esplanade, and the Esplanade Road closure.
Stage 2 works will commence on 18 March 2025 with Powercor boring underground cables and relocating the overhead power lines underground on the Esplanade. Their work is expected to be completed by mid-April 2025. As a result, temporary streetlights will be installed along Altona Foreshore and Altona Pier until mid-April 2025.
Additionally, the existing temporary seats and beach huts on the Esplanade will be removed from the site to allow the new permanent seating and shade structures to be installed.
During this time, areas of the foreshore and Esplanade will be fenced off to allow construction works, and we ask that you do not access these areas for safety reasons.
Please note there will be changes to traffic flow and parking in the street, and that traffic management will be in place.
