Laverton Storm Water Harvesting Reserve

LSW

Access is from Merton Street, opposite the baseball and softball stadium. This incredible reconstructed wetland was designed around Laverton Creek to capture excess flood waters. Visitors can experience the wetlands by stopping in the carpark and look out onto the wetland area, recommended are binoculars to spot the small birds hiding amongst the reeds. This project has not only been successful in storing water to irrigate the nearby baseball fields, but it has reduced the occurrence of flooding and road closures on Merton Street. The surrounding wetlands are now firmly established and are becoming a haven for a variety of bird-life including the cryptic crakes and rails which frequent the wetland areas. The Conservation team continue with weed control works and revegetation along the banks and upper margins of this system.
