Inside the Square March Makeover
Presented by Hobsons Bay City Council, Harrington Square Traders, Altona-Village Traders Association
For the month of March, Harrington Square on Harrington Street in the heart of Westona will come alive with interactive public art, events and a range of fun activities for the whole family.
The Square will be transformed with custom seating, new colourful planting, car free "pop up" zone and a large temporary ground mural. Here are some of the exciting featured events:

Opening Night Wine Tasting with the BirdCage Cafe
Saturday 2 March, 6pm to 9pm
Join The Birdcage Cafe for an opening night ticketed event with wine tasting, canapes and live music. This is a ticketed events, tickets available from Birdcage Cafe or via eventbrite.com.au
Friday 15 March, 3pm to 6pm
Saturday 16 March, 10am to 1pm
Join Creative City’s team of facilitators to be part of creating a large scale ground mural that will meander throughout the precinct. The work will be participatory and bring colour and movement to the square. We want you to join in and be part of the creation. Gloves and aprons will be provided, however participants need to wear old shoes and clothing.
Mesh Mash Pop-up Print Station
Friday 15 March and 22 March, 1pm to 5pm
Buy something from the Square and bring your receipt to our Pop-up Print Station so you can print your very own free calico tote bag. Designs will be workshopped with Mt St Joseph College in the lead up, so there will be a few creative options to choose from. Mesh Mash is a design and print studio based in Laverton’s Lohse and Woods Creative Precinct. Mesh Mash works with young people, to develop and mentor creative and business skills. All profits from sales go back into running the programs.
Hobsons Bay Libraries – Storytelling
Friday 22 March, 10am to 12pm

Powerslide Competition / Level Playing Field
Inflatable Public Artwork by David Cross

Create a super team* and join the Powerslide competition on an inflatable Public Artwork titled Level Playing Field by David Cross.
To win you need to get across the inflatable structure while the opposing team creates hurdles along the way. This is the first time Powerslide has been played in Australia, after success in France and New Zealand.
Competition Day 1: Thursday 28 March, 10am to 5pm
Competition Day 2: Friday 29 March, 10am to 7pm
Grand Final: Saturday 30 March, 10am to 7pm
Level Playing Field is a participatory inflatable installation the size of a typical basketball court investigating the interplay between sport and participatory art, David Cross' Level Playing Field is a pop-up structure which acts as a playing field for the game Powerslide.
Free to join and suitable for ages 12 and over. Registration of teams is essential.
