Habitat gardens in Hobsons Bay - Autumn round

This round is currently underway. If you are interested in participating in future rounds of the program, please sign up to our mailing list to hear about upcoming rounds and events.
The next round of the Habitat Gardens program will run in May/June 2023. The program will consist of in-person workshops, nursery tours, landscape design feedback sessions, and free native plants from Newport Lakes Native Nursery.

Program details

Participants must attend Workshop 1 and complete a landscape design to receive free plants. 

Workshop 1: How to create a habitat garden - inspiration and landscape design
Sunday 7 May, 10am to 1pm, Williamstown Botanic Gardens

In Workshop 1 participants will hear from expert habitat gardener, Chiara Perri, and receive a virtual tour of Chiara's habitat garden. Chiara's presentation will talk about the benefits of habitat gardening and tips and tricks she has learnt on her habitat gardening journey.

There will also be a presentation from landscape designer, Sanchia Hovey, who specialises in using native plants in home gardens. Sanchia will provide the participants with information on how to create their own landscape design and things to consider in your home garden. 

An optional activity at the end of this workshop is to visit the newly developed habitat gardens bed in the botanic gardens and hear from Sanchia about her inspiration when designing this area. 

Workshop 2: Tour of Newport Lakes Native Nursery (optional activity) 
Date and time: TBC

Learn about common indigenous plants of Hobsons Bay and take a guided tour of a local native plant nursery.

Workshop 3: Landscape design feedback and plant collection
Date and time: TBC Newport Lakes Native Nursery 

Participants will book a one-on-one session with local expert, Angela, who will review their completed garden design and provide feedback on plant selection. Participants will then submit their plant order and organise collection.
