Pest Flora and Fauna

Invasive flora/weeds are plants growing where they are not wanted, are in competition with local natural systems or ecologies and are a common problem in conservation areas and natural areas of Hobsons Bay. Some of the weeds that pose major threats to the biodiversity within Hobsons Bay are:

  • african boxthorn
  • chilean needle-grass
  • spiny Rush
  • carpet Weed
  • wild radish (giant mustard)
  • kikuyu
  • couch
  • soursob
  • onion grass
  • wild oats fauna

 

Pest animals pose a risk to native plants and animals within Hobsons Bay. These include rabbits, foxes, cats and common (Indian) mynas(PDF, 662KB).
