As part of our Public Art Strategy, we have committed to the rollout of several commissioned street art projects. The arts are an incredibly important platform that supports community connection and health and wellbeing in the community.
Street art provides a unique expression through all the possibilities of participation in roles as artists, arts workers, practitioners, teachers, students, critics, supporters, and consumers.
Our street art projects use arts-based approaches to community engagement, creating powerful mechanisms that activate our urban landscapes, create critical dialogue and celebrate Hobsons Bay's heritage by encouraging participation from people of all walks of life.
Street art projects 2025
We're excited to share three recently completed murals in Williamstown:
20 Ferguson Street, Williamstown – Melanie Caple
89 Ferguson Street, Williamstown – Leah Bartholomew
111–119 Douglas Parade, Williamstown – Giovanna Da Silva
The sites are allocated in line with Council's public art strategy, Better Places commitments and 2024 Pitch Your Project opportunities. In 2024, we called for expressions of interest from experienced street artists for a new series of street artworks.
Artists were asked to create works that responded to local place and heritage.
