 The work was commissioned as part of Images of the West, an initiative of the six councils of the western metropolitan region (Hobsons Bay, Wyndham, Moonee Valley, Maribyrnong, Melton and Brimbank) and the Department of Sustainability and Environment.

The Images of the West project commenced in 2001 and enabled a number of public art works to be located within the freeway environs.

Fire Within is a series of 23 off-white forms that reference the organic living and breathing nature of things… Fire Within represents the natural beauty and the ongoing development and change of the western region.” Adrian Mauriks

About the artist:

Since studying fine art at the VCA in the 1970’s Adrian Mauriks has exhibited extensively throughout his career creating works for public commissions, private exhibitions and collections. Mauriks has also lectured in tertiary institutions across Victoria and internationally. www.studiomauriks.com
