Seaworks Maritime Museum

Nestled on the historic waterfront of Williamstown, the Seaworks Maritime Precinct is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Victoria’s rich maritime heritage. At its heart lies the Seaworks Maritime Museum and Discovery Centre, where a remarkable collection of artefacts, models, bells and interpretive displays bring the maritime history of Port Phillip Bay and the Port of Melbourne to life.

The Seaworks site has been pivotal to Australia’s Maritime History as the place where the Enterprize set anchor during the foundation of Melbourne in 1835, the facility for ship repairs during World War II, and serviced and built vessels for the Port of Melbourne, Australia’s first independent port authority and busiest port operations.

Step inside the museum to explore the stories of seafaring life, from the earliest days of Melbourne’s foundation to the ships and industry that shaped the region. Knowledgeable volunteers help make history engaging for visitors of all ages.

But Seaworks is much more than a museum — it’s a dynamic, year-round hub of activity on the Hobsons Bay foreshore. Throughout the year the precinct hosts an exciting calendar of events, festivals, exhibitions, music, markets and community programs that bring history, culture and creativity together in a unique waterfront setting.

Whether it’s live music, outdoor cinema, art exhibitions or maritime-themed celebrations, there’s always something new happening at Seaworks. Visit the Seaworks website or events page to check what’s on and plan your visit.
