Stop 3: Pumping Station at Scienceworks

Capture Hobsons Bay Stop 3: Pump House

It may have been an old sewerage pump house back in the day but this building is magnificent. It was built in the late 1800’s in a French Renaissance style – or to be more precise Second French Empire style, which was popular in Europe at this time. Its dual towers are imposing but impressive with stunning arched windows and beautiful brickwork.

If you would like to see more of this impressive building you can go on a tour of the interior as part of the Scienceworks museum. The courtyard here was another location for the filming of Mad Max.
