The Hobsons Bay Business has Heart Outdoors program has been extended to May 2021 and Council is seeking input from residents and businesses to determine the long-term future of the program.

Developed as part of Council’s response to support local businesses during COVID-19, the outdoor trading program has allowed more than 190 local businesses to operate within strict social distancing limitations by extending their trading areas onto footpaths, parking spaces and other public spaces.

The program was originally designed to operate for six months from October 2020 – March 2021 but has been extended following feedback from the community.

Over the next two months Council will undertake further research and consultation with residents and businesses to consider what has worked, what needs improvement and how this program might figure in the future.

Quotes attributable to Mayor of Hobsons Bay Cr Jonathon Marsden:

“Hobsons Bay Business has Heart Outdoors has played an important role in supporting our traders and bringing our city back to life in a COVID-Safe manner. Now we need your help to decide the future of the program.

“Our consultation will consider factors such as how we can equitably distribute locations to maximise community benefit, whether we need to apply a seasonal model, similar to the partial closure of the Esplanade in Altona, optimal design and fit-out of outdoor trading areas, and who should fund any future program.”
