Cultural Diversity Week
Celebrate Cultural Diversity Week with us at the libraries. We have put together a fun and engaging program of events across our libraries which includes a documentary about Lygon St, Mahjong, storytimes and even Bollywood dancing!
Morning Movie: Lygon Street - Si Parla Italiano
Join us for a special morning movie session featuring the documentary Lygon St – Si Parla Italiano.
Discover the journey of Italian immigrants who left their homeland in search of a better life in Australia. Explore their experiences, challenges, and triumphs as they built new homes and communities in a foreign land.
We'll be serving up some delicious Italian pastries, so you can taste a piece of Italy while you reflect on the film.

Midday Mahjong
Join us for a game of Mahjong, a traditional Chinese tile-based game that is enjoyed by millions of people around the world.
Whether you're an experienced player or a complete beginner, we've got you covered. We'll have a table dedicated specifically for beginners, where our experienced players will teach you the ins and outs of the game.

Afternoon Zumba
Zumba is a fitness program that incorporates elements of Latin and international dance styles to create a fun and energetic workout experience.
This session is perfect for those who are new to Zumba or just starting to get into fitness. Our instructor will guide you through the steps and help you feel comfortable and confident on the dance floor.
This event is open to everyone and all fitness levels are welcome.

After School Explorers: Bollywood Dancing Workshop
Groove to the beat at this special Afterschool Explorers where you can unleash your inner dancer and learn all about Bollywood Dance!
Led by a professional dance instructor, this interactive session will teach you the fundamental steps and techniques of this vibrant dance style, and have you moving to the rhythm in no time.
For ages 5 to 12.

After School Explorers: Earth Children
Earth Children is a workshop where children will design, create and destroy their own indoor earth world using an ancient building material.
By getting dirty and muddy inside in a creative and educational way, the workshop aims to reconnect children to nature in a convenient urban indoor setting and to their carers’ childhood when this type of nature play was more common.
Best suited for children aged 5 to 12.

Celebration of Language Story Time
Join Anna as she takes your family on a storytelling tour of the globe celebrating many languages and storytelling styles. Includes a special Kamishibai performance (Japanese Paper Theatre).
Playful and magical, this “peek-a-boo” style of storytelling brings gleeful gasps and gentle surprises to the entire audience.

Picture Puzzles and Places: A Kamishibai Workshop
Together, you and your child will design rebus puzzles (picture puzzles) that will tell stories and spark your creativity.
Imagine making a puzzle of your favourite holiday destination, country/countries you call home, or even a place you dream of visiting one day.
And the best part? You'll get to take home your very own Kamishibai (Japanese paper theatre) cards and cardboard stage to add to and share with your loved ones.
Best suited for children aged 5 to 12, accompanied by an adult.

After School Explorers: Say Hello Bunting Workshop
How many ways can you say hello? In this hands-on session, write 'hello' in any language you like or know.
Use your creative flair to make your greeting stand out, then add it to a string of bunting and watch as the greetings decorate the library for Cultural Diversity Week!
