It is a hive of activity in our office at the moment preparing for the upcoming Business Excellence Awards gala dinner event later this month. Tickets are selling fast, so we recommend you organise your tickets quickly. We're looking forward to seeing you there.

Hobsons Bay Business Excellence Awards Gala Dinner
Tickets are still available for the upcoming 2017 Hobsons Bay Business Excellence Awards gala dinner at the Williamstown Town Hall on Friday 20 October. This exciting event is a great opportunity to join business leaders from across Hobsons Bay for an evening of celebration and networking.
 
Winners of all categories, as well as the Mayoral Award and the Business of the Year will be announced.

5 Week Business Strategy Program - A Business Growth Game Changer
Council is supporting a new opportunity for business in Hobsons Bay, enabled by the Victorian State Government Grow Your Business Program and delivered by Brad Regan through his company RealEdge. It’s a 5 week business strategy program called the Success Roadmap, that runs throughout November. 
 
The Success Roadmap program aims to provide local businesses the opportunity to access a full program of professional advice and training for minimal cost.

Take part in Eat.Drink.Westside 2018
Leveraging major events into local opportunities for our retail and hospitality sectors is part of Council’s tourism and events strategy, and you don’t get much more major than the highly regarded Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.  Consider registering this year, and be part of Eat.Drink.Westside along with businesses in Hobsons Bay, Wyndham, Maribyrnong, Brimbank, Moonee Valley in a westside focus. 
 
Eat.Drink.Westside. is a mix of unique event experiences celebrating the eclectic flavours, and strong sense of community spirit in the western region of Melbourne – all part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.

Changes to the Fair Work Act came into force 11 September 2017
The Fair Work Amendment (Corrupting Benefits) Act 2017 which came into force 11 September 2017 brings a raft of amendments to the Fair Work Act 2009 including a range of criminal offences.
The changes include the prohibition on giving and receiving of payments or non-cash ‘corrupting’ benefits intended to influence unions and union officials. The legislation also provides for enterprise bargaining disclosures, travel and hospitality expenses and the buying of union services. 2018/19 Council Budget information session
 
Council will be hosting Time to Talk 2018-19 budget information sessions and invite the community to attend. There will be opportunities to meet with your Councillors and ask questions about the upcoming budget.
These sessions will also provide an opportunity for community members to suggest an idea to be funded in Council's 2018-19 budget by making a three-minute presentation.
If you are unsure of the process, want to know if your idea is what council is looking for, or just need a little help with the online submission platform, Hobsons Bay City Council will be running a casual drop-in session:
*Tuesday 3 October 2017 - Brooklyn Community Hall, Cypress Avenue Brooklyn - 5.30pm to 6.30pm
