A Newport resident, Cr Hemphill is an award-winning journalist with The Weekly Times newspaper. Now in his seventh term as a Councillor, Cr Hemphill was first elected in 1999 and served as Mayor in 2008-09, 2015-16 and 2021-22. He is passionate about maritime history, preserving local heritage and building our sports network. He holds an Australian Institute of Company Directors diploma.
In his non-council roles, Peter was the inaugural president of the Williamstown Maritime Association and was appointed to the board of the Seaworks Foundation in 2011.
